Tiny fingers, tiny toes, precious little face - the first moment you look into your child's eyes is one you will never forget. The long wait is over at last. Your hard work finally pays off - in your arms you hold your Sweet Miracle
.

Sweet Miracles - A Childbirth Education and Doula Service - was founded by Louise DeLaney to help you make this scenario a reality. As a Certified Childbirth Educator, Certified Labor Doula and Certified Lactation Educator, I am committed to empower you to own your birth experience from beginning to end. My passion for the pregnant and laboring mom runs deep and strong. My classes and doula services are tailored to meet the specific needs of my clients.

The Birth of Sweet Miracles
My fascination and passion for the pregnant woman started long ago. I have always found such beauty in the way a woman's body swells with life and how we, as women, are the ones who get to so intimately participate with God in His creative process as He creates yet another miracle. It seemed only logical then, that I would find a way to channel this passion into something productive and constructive. Helping a woman and her partner through one of the most physically, emotionally, and mentally gruelling AND rewarding times of their lives - be it by education or labor support - is one of the most incredibly blessed events I have ever experienced.I am committed to getting to know you and your preferences for YOUR birth and helping them come to fruition.

My Friends Call Me "Loula"
In June of 2001, I married my best friend, Edward. Together, we share the joy of rearing our two beautiful children, E & P.  In January 2006, we relocated from Southern California to the Kansas City, MO area. I graduated in May 1998, with a Bachelor of General Studies in Business and Music. How did I end up being a childbirth educator and labor doula, you ask...read on...

Three days after completing my first - and to date, only - marathon (Honolulu 2002), I discovered that I was pregnant. Up to that point, the marathon was the biggest physical challenge I had ever experienced. Then I had this crazy notion - if I can run a marathon (that's 26.2 miles), why don't I attempt to have my baby "naturally" - that is, without medication. As I began to research my options, my husband and I decided that this was the best option for us. My own birth experience was exactly what I had hoped for. And through the course of my pregnancy and all of the reading and research that I did, my long held passion for pregnant women came to surface and I realized that this was my true calling. I started work immediately on obtaining my certification through CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association - see www.cappa.net) as a Childbirth Educator and later as a Labor Doula.  Most recently, I completed my Lactation Educator certification through CAPPA.  I served as the Executive Director of Childbirth Education Programs for CAPPA from September 2010 through January 2012.

I was not as fully prepared for the challenges that I would face postpartum. I desperately wanted to breastfeed and discovered soon after birth that my son had some significant latch-on difficulties. It took six weeks of tears and frustration along with a lot of determination and support before we finally got things right. I am pleased to say that I nursed E for 22 months. Consequently, I am also quite passionate about supporting women through their breastfeeding difficulties as well. Thankfully, I had absolutely no problems with establishing nursing with P and she was nearly three before we weaned.

I enjoy staying home with my two children during the day and find great joy in being a wife and mom. In my free time (what's that?), I enjoy reading, singing, and taking long hot showers (a luxury these days).
